The LEBOKU Festival Redefined!

Every year, the Yakurr people of Cross River state roll out their drums in August to showcase the world their agricultural and cultural potentials, through the Leboku Festival.

The festival which is carried out to celebrate the New yam is characterized with several activities such as the Mr and Miss Leboku  pageant competition, best Harvester competition, Wrestling competitions, and  traditional supplication.

The two week event culminated with a grand finale which saw the emergence of  Kayode Diana Okoi, a 19th year old student of Industrial Chemistry at Madonna University winning the 2010 Miss Leboku prize, while Olu Arikpo Mbe, a Student of the University of Calabar was crowned Mr Leboku 2010.

An interesting twist happened at this year’s Leboku as Mrs. Nakon Eteng emerged the Best Yam harvester for the year, changing the norm of men as winners of that prize!
